For two years, palliative care nurses Alice and Susan provided compassionate care to patients under challenging conditions at Kanyakine Hospital in Meru County. With limited resources and no dedicated space, they worked tirelessly in hospital corridors and even under trees to support patients facing cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
Thanks to their unwavering dedication and advocacy efforts, and the support of Hospice Care Kenya, the palliative care team have been given a new, dedicated three-room building from which to provide palliative care.
This new facility provides a safe, comfortable environment where patients can receive the care and dignity they deserve. It’s a milestone for healthcare in Meru County, ensuring better access to critical services for patients and their families.
During 2024 Hospice Care Kenya supported Alice and Susan to train and advocate with health managers in the county in an effort to increase their knowledge on the importance of palliative care. We are delighted to have been able to support this remarkable achievement.
Congratulations to Alice and Susan, Kanyakine’s palliative care champions!
