We’re incredibly proud to share how, thanks to generous donations from our supporters in the UK, we were able to provide emergency support to our hospice partners in Kenya during a critical shortage of morphine.
This support enabled us to help hospices purchase much-needed morphine, offering essential pain relief to over 800 people—primarily those living with cancer – who, without this support, would have faced severe, unmanaged pain. Among them were more than 100 children in urgent need of pain relief.
Morphine is crucial for patients in end-of-life and palliative care. However, recent shortages across the country threatened to deprive many of this vital relief, putting immense strain on patients and their families.
Thank you to everyone who supported our appeal. You made it possible for us to step in at this critical moment, bringing comfort and dignity to those most in need, like Mr Omari, who is receiving end-of-life care with our partner Nyeri Hospice.
Mr Omari calls morphine his ‘magic drug’ because it has changed his life, managing his severe pain effectively and allowing him to regain independence in daily tasks like cooking and attending church. With pain under control, he was able to embrace life again. Read Mr Omari’s story here.
Please support us to ensure that we can be there to support hospices in Kenya, and the patients they serve, in times of crisis. Please donate today.
