Eldoret Hospice - interior courtyard
Eldoret hospice began by using facilities, including staff, provided by the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. One local donor provided money to purchase some land and work began in March 1997 on building a day care centre.
It has been in this purpose built hospice for some time. It occupies the ground floor with the first floor being let to provide an income.
As with the other hospices in Kenya, the main objective is to help patients suffering from cancer for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate and to give information, counselling and support to their families and close associates before and after death of the patient. Future plans include research, screening and education and training. It is hoped to establish satellite services within the region.
